History of KDK

The KDK brand is an acronym for the Japanese company, Kawakita Denki Kigyousha which was founded in July 1909.

KDK is famous for being the first manufacturer of Electric Fans which is equipped with Japanese-made alternating-current motor in Japan . Thereafter, KDK has developed its overseas market since 1950's and further solidified its top-brand position, where it is regarded as a synonym for Electric Fans.

KDK started its business with Electric Fans and today the core business is to produce Ventilating Fans, Ceiling Fans, as well as Electric Fans. By taking full advantage of its strength in electrical and project sales channels in the major markets, i.e. Asia, Middle East and South Central America , KDK has evolved as a reputable brand in the regions.

The Birth of KDK:
Company was founded as Kawakita Denki Kigyosha, which was an engineering company in the electrical industry.
1913
Mass Production of Electric Fan:
Mass production and sales of the ‘Typhoon type’ Electric Fan began.
1917
Uzumaki Guard Founded:
A utility model Uzumaki Guard was applied to the Electric Fans.
1918
Registration of KDK Trademark
The 1st KDK trademark was established.
1921
Development of Ceiling Fan
The 1st ceiling fan was developed and launched in Japan.
1928
Development of Ventilating Fan (Shutter Type):
Company’s Ventilating Fan (Shutter Type) went into operation.
1956
The Merger:
Established Osaka Denki Seiki Co., Ltd and became a member of Panasonic Group, later renamed to Matsushita Seiko Co. Ltd. A new KDK Trademark was registered in 1960.
1978
70th Anniversary
Produced a special Desk Fan as a memorial gift to celebrate the 70th Anniversary.
1979 Establishment of Distributors Overseas
The success prompted KDK to set up different distributors in Hong Kong, the Philippines, the Americas and Canada in a few years to explore sales.
1988 Relegations of Sales Representative
KDK appointed Shun Hing Electric Works and Engineering Co. Ltd as its Hong Kong Sales Representative.
2001 Establishment of Sales Company in Indonesia
PT. KDK Indonesia was set up to handle business prospects in Indonesia.
2002 Establishment of Sales Company in Malaysia
KDK Fans (M) Sdn. Bhd. was set up to handle business prospects in Malaysia.
2003 Company Name Changed
Matsushita Seiko Co. Ltd was renamed as Matsushita Ecology Systems Co., Ltd. and its Head Office moved from Osaka to Kasugai in Aichi.
2009
Entered a New Era
100th Anniversary for KDK.
